Emma and the Talking Bush

Emma did not like gardens or flowers or anything to do with the outdoors for that matter.
She liked to stay inside where it was clean and tidy, no dirt or grass or leaves or rain, just clean and tidy.
Emmas father was a famous gardener. Everyone in town bought his plants and vegetables.
“Come outside and help me plant these beautiful flowers,” her father would say.

“No thanks,” Emma would tell her father, “not today.”

One day Emma’s father tried again. “Look at these wonderful tomato plants,” he told Emma, “help me plant these and in the summer we will have ripe, juicy tomato’s.”

“No thanks,” said Emma, “not today.”

“Help me plant these cute little pumpkin seeds,” asked her father, “don’t you want to some giant pumpkins for Halloween?”

“No thanks,” said Emma.

One by one Emmas father went through every seed and plant he had in his greenhouse.
His most expensive ones.
His most beautiful ones.
His most delicious ones.
Even his biggest ones, but every time Emma would shake her head and say.

“No thanks, not today.”

Soon it was time for lunch so Emma and her father walked down the street to Mr. Barton’s cafe’.
Mr. Barton was friends with Emma’s father and made great corn dog’s.
Emma sat on the bench near the cafe’ as her father walked to the window to talk to Mr. Barton.

“Oohhh…” Emma heard someone groan.” Emma looked around but did not see anyone. “It sure is hot out here.” The voice said.
“Who said that!” Emma replied to the voice.
“I did,” said the voice. It was coming from a bush.
“Your a bush,” said Emma, “and bushes can’t talk.”
 “We can’t?” said the bush.
 “No,” said Emma.
“Hmmm,” said the bush, “I’m pretty sure I just talked to you.”
“Can the other bushes talk?” asked Emma looking at the other bushes.
“Don’t be silly,” replied the bush, “they’re just bushes.”
“Oh, I see,” Said Emma. “Why are you so hot Mr. Bush?” Emma asked.
“Because I am out here in the sun all day,” the bush told Emma. Mr. Barton is so busy he does not have time to keep me watered and it is very lonely.
